Road Trip

We packed the car, wait let me re-phrase, we stuffed the trunk with all the necessary crap it takes for one overnight away from home, and hit the road!  It really is simply amazing what it takes and there is no separating a child from her stroller, like separating a husband from his cooler...they both have to go!  We took off Friday morning and landed in Marquette just in time to do a little shopping and an old time family photo!  That's right folks, there is something about the old time photos that marks a memory!

Seeing Henley dressed up in a flapper dress made it all worth it!

We also made it back to Pikes Peak!
Its worth a yearly visit to be reminded of how much I hate heights, along with the absolute beauty of the river, and the size scale of the bluffs and our surroundings.

We ate lunch at Old Man River and it once again didn't disappoint.  We decided it was time for a nap, Henley that is, so we took advantage of the road time and tootled around, following up and over the river into Prairie Du Chien.  There were a few recommendations we were told to visit, so we strolled along downtown and found it!  It was one mans dream, its a liquor store meets firearms, meets taxidermy, meets boat motors...wow!

Welcome to Starks!
The liquor was cheep and so was the thought, what more can I say?  We walked across the street to Pete's hamburger hut, the second recommendation, where people literally wait in line city blocks long just for the taste of Pete's burger.  Brandon and I split one, and it was rather tasty. We enjoyed dessert

then stumbled across this super cute store called Monkey Tails "where kids can go bananas!" http://www.monkeystale.com/
Next, we checked into the Country Inn and Suites, suited up, and hit the Bear Creek water park next door!

What a blast this was!  It was perfect for Henley as it offered a zero depth entry, along with a mini water slide and fun bears that quirt out water.  She again, showing bravely, trucked through the water with confidence.  She wanted to see it all!  I convinced Brandon, that he should show Henley how cool he was by going down the big water slide, not meant for kiddos 48' and under.
When he came zooming out with a big giant smile on his face, I knew it was the inner kid coming out of him!  He tells me I should give it a try.  After trying to get out of it because I didn't want to get my hair wet, he tells me, "its not very fast, you could hit the water and not go under."  He was one big fat LIAR!  I felt like I was shot out of a cannon and landed with my feet up in the air, submerged to the bottom!  But it was SO much fun, we both went again!  One of the many reasons why having kids is so sweet, you get to act like one too!
We wrapped up the evening with dinner at the hotel pub, then pushed Henley in the stroller next door to Cabela's.  She enjoyed seeing all the stuffed animals...literally!

Although she looks frightened, she would scream "BEAR!"  "GOAT!" " was dat?" "OOHHH, AAAHHH"
It was wonderful to get away, we had so much fun and sure made a lot of memories!
